Canadian Grand Prix Promises Excitement

All sorts of small incidents in the practice and qualifying sessions on Friday and Saturday lead me to think that the Canadian Grand Prix is going to be full of action, and probably will lead to a surprise winner, despite the McLaren Mercedes cars apparent domination. And, yes, a first pole position by Lewis Hamilton!

The incidents?

  • The Toyota of Jarno Trulli breaking its front suspension twice, the team advising him to take care at Turn 8
  • Spykers leaping the curb
  • Several cars going straight through the same corner because the track was so slippery
  • Heikki Kovalainen’s engine exploding and leaving oil on the track, then wiping out during qualifying, only to return rebuilt
  • Five engines having to be changed and throwing their drivers back to the back of the grid for the race start (David Coulthard in a Red Bull; the two Hondas and the two Super Aguri Hondas.)
  • BMW Sauber cars with problems, Nick Heidfeld hitting the wall Friday, and Kubica spinning - engine flames on Saturday
  • Red Bull leaping over curb too and problems on car
  • Red flag in first qualifying after Kovalainen's problem
  • Heidfeld running straight, disqualified best time then back to make it to third fastest
  • No Ferraris in the top three, and a frustrated looking Fernando Alonso being beaten by Hamilton
