Alonso Bumped Down the Grid, McLaren Earns No Points
Sunday August 5, 2007
That's the decision by the stewards, delivered late last night. Fernando Alonso will start sixth on the grid, and Lewis Hamilton will start from pole position. The stewards did not accept McLaren's explanation that they were waiting for traffic to clear and so held Alonso for 20 seconds, and they did not accept Alonso's explanation that he added another 10 seconds wait because he was asking the team if they had put the right tires on his car - all while Hamilton sat waiting behind. So McLaren cannot take constructors' points, and Alonso moves back on the Hungaroring where it is almost as difficult to overtake on as Monaco.
