Felipe Massa's 100th GP

Monday August 25, 2008

Felipe Massa pointed out in a Ferrari team press release after the race in Valencia yesterday that his ninth career victory here was in fact also his 100th Grand Prix that he has taken part in. Then he pointed out another fact we rarely think of: That all of his races have been done using a Ferrari engine. Yes, he raced at Sauber - but remember that the engine powering that car was also a Ferrari engine.

On the other hand, I've counted only 99 Grands Prix for Felipe. Let me know if you come up with a different number!?!

(1) Phil says:

Apparently, at least according to the the Speed commentators, Felipe also thought he’d won one more pole this year than indicated in the official count!

Still, behind Lewis, he’s got to be counted as one of my favorite F1 drivers; even if he seems, himself, to have a problem counting.

Thanks for that information about the Speed commentators. I’m glad I didn’t take Felipe at his word on the poles then! (Which I didn’t mention anywhere, in fact.)
I too like Felipe a lot. He is fairly unique amongst drivers in being very human, in not having an inflated ego, in being able to accept his faults but be very quietly confident. So quietly confident is he, in fact, that he often does not look confident at all! But then he’ll say stuff that shows you he is entirely confident in his abilities – as he should be.
