Testing Results In Barcelona

Thursday November 20, 2008

The most interesting part of the first three days of testing of the winter was not only the look of the new F1 cars that introduced next year's aerodynamics. It was the battle at Toro Rosso between the three drivers who are trying to prove their worth at the team. Sébastien Bourdais you would think would have no need of proving his worth. But he was the reference point, in any case (in his own words), to Takuma Sato and Sebastien Buemi as those two tested. I would think it very unwise for the team to drop Bourdais. But choosing between Buemi and Sato as his teammate could be difficult: Sato scored a lot of points even with a bad Super Aguri car, so what might he do with a Toro Rosso that was as good as last year's? (If it remains that good.) But Buemi is the youthful future. Personally, I cannot imagine Sato replacing Bourdais and joining Buemi. Sato is fast, but a bit accident prone. And his technical input cannot be as good as that of Bourdais. In a way, I think it would be kind of funny if the team yet again went for a couple of Sebastiens. It worked last year. Why not try that combination again? Of course, that would mean three Sebastian or Sebastiens in the Red Bull organization, as Vettel moves to Red Bull, the sister team....
