Alexander Wurz has had one of the most unusual careers in racing, starting as a child cycling star and then moving to Formula 1 in 1997 at the age of 23. After four seasons at Benetton he joined McLaren-Mercedes as a test driver, filling in during one race, in 2005, before joining Williamsas a test driver the following year. He returned to full time racing in 2007.
