The device contains proprietary, patented technology. It is designed by the Kangaroo TV company, which was founded in 2001 by Marc Arseneau, a racing car driver and entrepreneur. In 2003 the first generation device was used in Champ Car. The device was much improved and in 2005 the company signed a deal to work with Nascar, naming the device FanView, and selling out at the first race of the 2006 season. In 2006 it also signed a deal to work with the NFL, with DirectTV. After trying out the device at F1 races in 2006, Kangaroo TV in 2007 launched its first full season in Formula 1 at the Australian Grand Prix.
